“Method Acting”

This film is a project made in the class titled Intro to Film/Media Production: FMP 280. As a class, we acted as a crew in order to write, film, and each individually edit the film. I acted as 2nd Assistant Director for this production.

The Writing Process

Since the entire class would be contributing to the production of the film, many looked to the project as something to add to a portfolio. This caused a need for input from the class. We used a writing technique called the “Exquisite Corpse Method.”

Exquisite Corpse Method

The method is defined as, “a method by which a collection of words or images is collectively assembled. Each collaborator adds to a composition in sequence, either by following a rule or by being allowed to see only the end of what the previous person contributed.” We integrated this into our script writing by all bringing a personal item in, placing them all in a pile, and breaking into groups. Once we were in three groups, we would begin brainstorming one act of a story based on the pile of objects. Group one did act one, group two did act two, and the third group did the third act.

The story

Once we all had a story, we began production. Once production was complete, each student was supplied the footage and a due date. From there, we had creative freedom to edit the film however we see fit. My iteration of the story is below.
